Fonts and Scalers

Artifex's technology products include a variety of options for commercial-quality (hinted) fonts and font scaler software for meeting your customers' needs. Our fonts are available for pre-licensing evaluation with a signed NDA. Pricing for our font and scaler technologies is very competitive and may be combined with our interpreter pricing.

While PostScript LanguageLevel 3 does not specify a particular set of fonts, applications typically rely on those present in Adobe printers, which consist of the traditional base 35 with additional symbols plus an additional 101 fonts. We plan to offer the extended symbol set for the base 35 and the additional 101 fonts with Agfa's Microtype font system featuring Agfa's fonts, compression and scalers.
Level 1 and 2 PostScript-generating applications and drivers traditionally rely on the presence of a set of 35 fonts in the RIP, with a particular set of symbols available in these fonts. We offer a high quality set of type faces whose appearance closely matches that of the Adobe base 35 fonts, with the full set of traditional Adobe symbols and with compatible metrics. These fonts are from Soft Horizons and are in Type 1 format.

HP's LaserJet 4si specifies a set of 45 base fonts. The LaserJet 6 and 4000 series printers offer a set of 110 fonts that include the original base 45 plus with an extended symbol set for those 45, along with an additional 65 host-based fonts. We offer compatibility with the high quality Agfa Microtype font system featuring Agfa's True Type, Intellifont and Microtype fonts, compression and scalers. This allows our customers the ability to easily integrate a complete set of fully compatible fonts.

Ghostscript's PostScript and PCL interpreters feature commercial quality font scaling technology with our own Type 1 hinted rasterizer, a non-hinted True Type rasterizer, and a non-hinted Intellifont rasterizer (for compatibility with older PCL files that download Intellifont data).
